The goal of this workshop is to show how using Situational judgment tests (SJTs) can show meaningful practical insights and provide a bridging opportunity to a better assessment experience.

SJTs can be viewed as a middle ground between a performance assessment and a knowledge check. They ask the test-taker to evaluate real-world situations and how they would respond to them. Test-takers are asked to rank the answer options based on their appropriateness to the given situation. The development of an SJT-based assessment presents its own set of judgment calls to both test developers and psychometricians.

This workshop covers insights on developing an assessment using SJT items. We will advise practitioners on both sides of the development/analysis coin on the best practices that we discovered while also addressing pitfalls and real-world constraints.

At the end the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Determine the right level of SME engagement in developing SJT items
  • Experiment with the nuances of SJT item development and review practices
  • Distinguish the opportunities and pitfalls of analyzing SJT assessment data
Note: Workshop attendees will earn a certificate specifying the number of hours completed. The certificate can be applied for recertification credits towards their ICE-CCP certification.
